Meet Our Team
After years of working as a communications specialist in Washington, D.C., Cindy decided, with her husband, Art, to leave city living and move to the Northern Virginia countryside. The couple indulged their self-sustainable attitude and began growing their own vegetables, keeping bees, raising chickens and enjoying life on a small hobby farm.
After Art purchased a home soap-making kit, they experimented with their own natural soap recipes using farm-grown herbs and locally-sourced honey. Cindy sold the soaps locally and found that they were a huge hit. She studied reports on the many chemicals found in personal care products and learned about their alarming effects on the human body and the environment. Ultimately, her findings led to the creation of Valley Green Naturals, a company founded to produce body-safe and eco-friendly formulas for whole body care.
Since its launch in 2009, the company’s production has grown beyond soaps, and the Valley Green Naturals line now boasts over 30 skin, hair and body care products that are free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens and petrochemicals.
Cindy serves as the company’s chief chemist and head of product development. She has a true passion for researching and testing the effectiveness of natural ingredients in whole body personal care, and she loves to write and speak about the natural products industry and how bountiful Mother Nature really is in meeting our everyday needs.
Married in 1982, Art and Cindy have always loved the outdoors and visiting the country. They often hiked and camped with their two children in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. A year after 9/11, Art and Cindy decided to leave city-living for good and settle in the country. They’ve never looked back!
A former Marine, Art works as a cyber-security specialist on government projects near Washington, D.C., maintaining that the commute is well worth the rewards of country living. He also assists with the technological needs of Valley Green Naturals and serves as chief grower and beekeeper at the Valley Green homestead. His recipes using organic herbs, spices and oils have formed the basis for the company’s planned expansion into natural and organic dry food goods.
